"I think after anything like this you always look back afterwards and say that something that seemed to be a problem at the time really isn't a big deal anymore. Because you just went through something some people don't walk away from." Source: Flight instructor Michael Denning, who safely landed the Beechcraft Bonanza transporting him and two students to Vermont Wednesday evening after the plane's engine failed. Denning landed the stricken aircraft on Interstate 87... bringing the plane down right on the centerline, and leaving less than three feet between wingtips and guardrails on either side.
  • Instructor Lands On NY Highway After Engine Failure
Two Students Get Firsthand Instruction On Engine-Out Procedures "Any port in a storm," as they say... and, any suitable landing area when your engine dies. That's a lesson a 24-year-old Canadian flight instructor was able to impart to two student pilots Wednesday evening, when he safely landed their stricken Bonanza on an interstate highway in upstate New York.
  • Aero-TV Check Out Oshkosh's New 'Cab With A View'

After some opening remarks by Great Lakes Regional Administrator Barry Cooper, both EAA President Tom Poberezny and FAA Acting Administrator Robert Sturgell spoke of the beautiful new facility and the commanding view from the top. Mark Harris, Winnebago County Executive, thanked the FAA for funding the tower and remarked how happy the citizens of Winnebago County are to have a new facility with no additional taxes.
  • Though Wary Of Storms, NASA Moves Atlantis To Pad
Launch Scheduled For Early October Buoyed by weather forecasts that show Florida's Space Coast presently out-of-danger from several offshore storms, on Thursday NASA moved the space shuttle Atlantis to the launch pad, in anticipation of its launch on the STS-125 mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope.
  • FAA Adds ADS-B Equipment In South Florida
Free TIS-B, FIS-B Available To Pilots With Equipped Planes The FAA announced Thursday that pilots flying in aircraft equipped with Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) avionics in South Florida now receive free traffic and weather information on their cockpit displays. This marks the first time area pilots are able see the same traffic information that's seen by air traffic controllers.
